Apple is distancing its Vision Pro from the rest of the VR/AR headset pack, but it can't escape what the device is.
Instagram, through its system of fostering communities with sets of narrow interests, has helped guide users to illegal child sex content. Instagram's parent company Meta has acknowledged the problem and vows to improve internal controls. Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau slammed Alphabet Inc's (NASDAQ: GOOG) (NASDAQ: GOOGL) Google and Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ: META) for "bullying tactics" against a Canadian push to ensure financial support for news publishers. The proposed legislation in Canada will push internet firms like Google and Meta's Facebook to pay publishers for their content, Reuters reports. Google and Facebook have run tests in 2023 to restrict some users from viewing or sharing news content in Canada in thei
Researchers point out that Meta Platforms, Inc (NASDAQ: META) owned Instagram connects pedophiles and guides them to content sellers via recommendation systems. The social network platform helps connect and promote a vast network of accounts openly devoted to underage-sex content, the Wall Street Journal and academic researchers found. Instagram does not merely host these activities, its algorithms promote them. The researchers found that Instagram has enabled people to search explicit hashtags

Apple's new Vision Pro headset is an outrageously impressive piece of technology. But it'll need apps to move beyond that.
Nicola Mendelsohn rose through Meta's ranks while navigating an extraordinary personal challenge: incurable cancer.
Facebook’s all-in pivot to virtual reality in November 2021 has been mocked every which way, from its Martingale capex strategy to its limb deficiency. Meta’s share price rally — up nearly 200 per cent from a November 2021 low — was on AI hype and newfound discipline around costs rather than its creation of a $10bn-a-year digital wasteland, which only ever gets mentioned these days in the context of how much it’s distracting management. Meta’s problem with VR was that people didn’t really want to wear droopy scuba masks.

Apple (AAPL) unveiled its long-awaited mixed reality headset, Apple Vision Pro, at the company's Worldwide Developers Conference 2023 (WWDC).
The head of Meta's global business group was promoted amid Meta's "efficiency" layoffs, its first year-over-year drop in revenue, and a grim economy for advertisers. Can she turn things around?
Virtual reality start-ups have pinned their hopes on Apple’s longed-for release of a mixed reality headset becoming a catalyst for a rebound in industry funding. The headset, with a likely price tag of about $3,000, is expected to combine augmented reality, which conjures up digital images into the real world, and virtual reality, which immerses users into a game-like realm. “Code new worlds,” reads Apple’s website for Monday’s event, which many interpret as a reference to a new computing platform.
The VR market is accordingly getting more attention than it has in a while, but the question still lingers: What actually are we supposed to do with these headsets? Gaming, sure, but it's seemed to me that there isn't a must-have "hero" app for VR yet.
Apple will host its WWDC event on June 5, and we're expecting a slew of announcements including its AR/VR headset.

Facebook content moderators hired by a third-party contractor in Kenya are suing over working conditions. The contractor involved denies the allegations and Facebook parent Meta is arguing it shouldn’t be involved in the lawsuit.
