As the SEC puts pressure on crypto exchanges Coinbase and Binance, digital asset holders are beginning to question the timeline for clear crypto regulation. Delta Blockchain Fund General Partner Kavita Gupta joins Yahoo Finance Live to discuss the outlook for proper crypto regulation and the ongoing debate's impact on crypto markets.
The Securities Exchange Commission has sued Coinbase, alleging the firm broke securities law. Yahoo Finance legal reporter Alexis Keenan explains the SEC's suit and markets reporter Jared Blikre breaks down the market reaction.
We are at a fascinating juncture in the world of cryptocurrencies, where market volatility over the past year has paved the way for potentially life-changing wealth. Investing in cryptos that can make you rich could offer incredible upside this year. The crypto markets appear to be on the cusp of the next bull run. Also, if the market’s predictions hold true and rate cuts are imminent, riskier assets such as cryptos are poised to gain immensely. However, a deep and prolonged recession is possibl
After a much-needed crypto winter, cryptocurrencies are warming up for the next bull market. I say much-needed as the bear market helped in cleansing the excesses. The next bull run will likely be bigger than before. Bitcoin (BTC-USD) has surged by over 60% for year-to-date 2023. But it’s still a good time to look at some cryptos to buy and hold through the decade. There needs to be high conviction when the investment horizon is more than five years. Therefore, my focus in this column is limited
Market turmoil resulting from Silicon Valley Bank's collapse briefly caused Circle's USDC (USDC-USD) stablecoin to break its peg to the dollar. In response, the stablecoin issuer's management team has called upon the U.S. congress to urgently pass stablecoin legislation. In an interview with Yahoo Finance's Jennifer Schonberger, House Committee on Financial Services Chair Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA), says the legislation could be passed in just a few days, hinting that the delay was due to concerns over which political party would be in control of the House of Representatives."The only thing that interfered, I think, with its passage was the anticipation that the house was going to change and it was going to be in the hands of the Republicans and they should take charge rather than those of us on the Democratic side," said Ranking Member Waters. Rep. Waters declined to give a timetable for the legislation, though she did reaffirm that she and Rep. Patrick McHenry (R-NC), are focused on stablecoin legislation and have bipartisan support to get it done. There finally seems to be some indication the extended crypto winter is over. Bitcoin (BTC-USD) has surged by nearly 40% in the last month. In general, smaller cryptos surge higher with a lag, so it might be a good time to look at some altcoins to buy for 2023. Let’s first discuss the renewed optimism in the cryptocurrency space and the reasons. First and foremost, cryptocurrencies were oversold and the downside was capped when Bitcoin traded around $16,000. Furthermore, the weakening of the dol
To determine which cryptocurrencies may be the best investments in 2023, market participants and crypto enthusiasts are analyzing the likelihood of numerous future scenarios. In recent weeks, meanwhile, crypto prices have rallied. That has made investors hopeful and left many of them looking for cryptos to watch and eventually buy. With innovative new blockchain projects continuing to pop up, this nascent sector has plenty of positive catalysts to be excited about. Indeed, new ways of using cryp
While crypto winter may still be raging on, the start of 2023 has provided quite the respite for many top cryptos. Of course, not all cryptos have performed the same. There are over 21,000 digital currencies in existence. Thus, there’s plenty of room for divergence among quality projects and, shall we say, more speculative ones. That said, for long-term investors looking to build a growth portfolio, allocating a small percentage toward crypto has proven to be a solid investment over the past dec
Binance's efforts to offer support to troubled companies in the crypto industry have ballooned to $2 billion.
Those advocating for a more equitable financial system suffered a serious setback last week, when revelations emerged that crypto’s so-called white knight, Sam Bankman-Fried, reportedly used customer deposits in FTX, the crypto exchange he founded, to fund risky bets in Alameda, a sister company he owned.
Multiple firms have taken extreme measures since FTX filed for bankruptcy on November 11, leaving customers without access to their funds.
We are in the midst of a brutal crypto winter. This bearish market cycle has certainly invited many investors to reconsider their posture. With broadly bearish sentiment has come a defensive transition out of growth assets and into safe havens. For most cryptos, this has meant lower valuations as investors wait out this selling period. In the crypto sector specifically, there appears to be a flight to safety as well. Many investors are moving away from meme tokens and more speculative projects t
Finding the best cryptos to buy can be a challenge as the world of crypto is always evolving. Investors looking for long-term holdings which can amplify returns in the growth portion of their portfolio have done well in recent years. This year hasn’t been so kind. Everything from meme tokens to what were formerly some of the hottest cryptos to buy has been hit hard as crypto winter continues on. There are many reasons for this. Central banks around the world are intent on reigning in inflation.
While many cryptocurrencies have rallied substantially from their June lows, it’s too early to declare that crypto winter has ended. Investors taking a long-term view of the sector may not want to liquidate their crypto portfolios, though. Instead, to retain as much value as possible during this crypto winter, they should consider upgrading the quality of their portfolio. Given the hit in cryptoasset prices nearly across the board, many of the highest-quality tokens are trading at a discount. Ac
Bankers and advisers that backed Tesla CEO Elon Musk’s $44 billion bid for Twitter have been hit with a flood of new subpoenas from the social media site's lawyers
Lately it seems like everyone from Binance (BNB-USD) to Shiba Inu (SHIB-USD) is in the news for “token burns”: crypto’s version of a stock buyback. Let’s see what’s going on here and why it’s such a crucial – yet little-known factor in picking the right crypto plays…at the right time. Source: Shutterstock Token Burns Keep SHIB on the Leaderboard If you’re not that familiar with Shiba Inu… It’s actually a little different from Dogecoin (DOGE-USD). While DOGE was created as a joke by “hard-forking
For the first time in 5 weeks, the total market capitalization for crypto assets climbed above $1 trillion as of Monday morning.
Admittedly, 2022 has certainly not been the best year so far for cryptocurrencies. A number of factors were responsible for keeping the market moderately bearish. These include constant reminders regarding Federal Reserve hikes, the unfortunate Terra (UST-USD) incident, and now concerns around the crypto lending and trading markets via the freezing of withdrawals from Celsius (CEL-USD) and Binance (BNB-USD). However, despite all these headwinds, many investors are on the lookout for growth. Grow
Cryptocurrency sell-offs continued through Tuesday morning, analysts remain extremely cautious as investors await the Federal Reserve’s Wednesday FOMC meeting and press conference.
Currently 2 out of the top 5 cryptocurrencies are stable coins, which further illustrates the critical role that the class of token plays in cryptocurrency utilization and transactions.
There is a saying that one shouldn’t stay invested in the stock market if they are unable to handle a decline of 20% or more. That said, crypto investors have had to be much more risk-tolerant than equity investors for some time. This market is a highly volatile one, more akin to a roller coaster, with even the best cryptos to buy seeing incredible declines during this recent bear market. It’s clear this market is one that’s unlikely to even out any time soon. Price action for most major cryptos
