Canada's antitrust watchdog said on Thursday it had obtained a court order to gather information and advance an ongoing investigation into Google's online advertising practices in the country. The court order requires Google to produce records and information relevant to an investigation into whether the search engine giant has engaged in practices that harm competition in the online display advertising industry, Competition Bureau Canada said in a statement.
The tech company generated nearly $69 billion of free cash flow last year.
Germany wants Big Tech companies Alphabet, Amazon, Apple, ByteDance, Meta Platforms and Microsoft to contribute towards the compliance costs of new European Union rules aimed at curbing their power, a senior German economy ministry official said on Thursday. Sven Giegold, state secretary in charge of competition policy at Germany's economy ministry, said such a move would help EU antitrust regulators better enforce the Digital Markets Act (DMA) which the six companies have to comply with on March 7.
