Walmart announced it is closing down its healthcare business Tuesday. The move will impact 51 locations in five states, as well as relationships with health systems, like the one penned with Florida's Orlando Health in November.
Walmart is bowing out of the healthcare business just five years after entering the market, as it moves to close all 51 of its health centers and telehealth business. The decision comes a little over a year since rival Amazon.com completed the purchase of its own healthcare provider—and is leaning into the industry even as Walmart is cutting back.
Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT) said on Tuesday that it would close all of its healthcare clinics across the country. Walmart pharmacies and vision centers were unaffected. The big box retailer will close 51 clinic locations and shut down the virtual care offerings. The company said in a release that the plan will not affect its 4,600 pharmacies and more than 3,000 vision centers. “This is a difficult decision, and like others, the challenging reimbursement environment and escalating operating costs crea
