Tesla stock's wild ride

Yahoo Finance’s Brian Sozzi, Alexis Christoforous, and Ines Ferre break down the market action for Tesla.

影片文字紀錄

BRIAN SOZZI: All right. Welcome back to The First Trade. Tesla's wild ride continued yesterday. The high flying stock hit a massive turnaround by Monday's closing bell. Dow Finance's Ines Ferre is back with the details. Ines, wow. That's all I got for you. Just wow.

INES FERRE: Wow that is right. Yesterday, this stock reached almost 1,800 at one point surpassing the $300 billion market cap. Then it came back down around 2:00 PM and ended in the red. Right now, it's down about 4%.

There's been a lot of speculation on Tesla over whether the company could be joining the S&P 500. July 22 is when it reports its quarterly results. If it reports gap profits, it could be considered for inclusion. You need to have at least four consecutive quarters of positive earnings in order to be included.

But really such a ride yesterday when it came-- I mean, in a matter of minutes, it just fell about 200 handles. Also taking a look at Piper Sandler's note this morning. Piper Sandler wrote a note raising its price target on Tesla to a street high of 23, 22. That's Alexander Potter as an analyst there. Maintaining an overweight rating on this stock.

And this is what he wrote. He said is it time to redeploy capital after an amazing run? Resoundingly, we think the answer is no. In our view, Tesla is the most consequential company in the mobility ecosystem, and this is unlikely to change in the next decade.

Basically, laying out his thesis for why he thinks the stock could go to 23, 22. And he says that a big driver is software. That's why the firm is raising its price target on the stock. Brian.

BRIAN SOZZI: Forget Tesla, Ines. You see that new Bronco? It has little plugs in the floor. You could take it out. You're washing the car in the driveway, you can wash the whole thing down if you wanted to. Forget Tesla.

INES FERRE: Very cool Bronco, I agree.

BRIAN SOZZI: All right. Thanks so much, Ines.
